I know it doesn't look like I'm working in this picture but I am..... really! Kirk and I are <a href="http://www.kcsinnsitting.com/" target="_blank">Interim Innkeepers</a> for the <a href="http://www.doveinn.com/" target="_blank">Dove Inn</a> in Golden Colorado this month. Our client there , Elizabeth Padilla, was generous enough to give us two days "off" and the use of her mountain cabin in<br />
<a href="http://www.grandlakecolorado.com/" target="_blank">Grand Lake</a>. What a treat!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Grand Lake is a lovely historic town nestled between two lakes in the Colorado Rockies. Below, Kirk is sitting on the porch of the Kaufman House Museum built in 1877.<br />

Grand Lake is also located at the Western entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park and September is the best time to visit the park for two reasons: 1- it is mating season for the elk that inhabit the park and 2- the aspen trees show off their stunning fall colors.<br />
So of course we went in to the park and spent a wonderful day looking for elk and aspens.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Although you can not see it in this photo, we did get to see some very impressive bull elk making their strange calls and even got to see one running across this meadow to chase away his rival<br />
<br />
We went back in to the park as the sunset and heard a haunting symphony as three males challenged each other across the valley in the dusk. Their cries echoed off the hills and gave me chills.<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
We saw a beautiful array of aspen trees all over the park but my favorite where these two intertwined! <br />

<br />
At lunch time we took a hike along the banks of the headwaters of the Colorado River and had a lovely pic-nic at this spot.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Now it's back to work but we certainly had a grand time in Grand Lake. <br />
We are currently <a href="http://www.kcsinnsitting.com/" target="_blank">Interim Innkeepers</a> at <a href="http://www.mackayeharborinn.com/" target="_blank">Mackaye Harbor Inn</a> on lovely <a href="http://www.lopezisland.com/" target="_blank">Lopez Island</a>. Whenever possible we go to the super charming Lopez Farmers Market to buy fruit for the inn and veggies for ourselves. It's a very special place to do your shopping!<br />
<br />
<br />
This year we are here too early in the season for there to be much produce - DARN! But still.... all sorts of tempting things from local artisans.<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I did buy a loaf of very tasty rosemary bread to add to our dinner. And I just had to have a piece of strawberry rhubarb rose pie for lunch! <br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGMohg29PBv-205VIPj9KB5KoMQb6QkI0_9ZhUUeO3CwqfdHq-F6YLOuisXRNWwqLgTXDb5lIPWJjADyFLxlwiSqZH0WGeVuTcEeeAKdKqLkQShhSgK0rH9VD2_WRvqj5p411G433GoTA/s1600/006.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGMohg29PBv-205VIPj9KB5KoMQb6QkI0_9ZhUUeO3CwqfdHq-F6YLOuisXRNWwqLgTXDb5lIPWJjADyFLxlwiSqZH0WGeVuTcEeeAKdKqLkQShhSgK0rH9VD2_WRvqj5p411G433GoTA/s320/006.JPG" width="240" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
It's not all about edibles at the Lopez Farmers Market- there is a booth of local wine and many arts and crafts booths. A great place to do a little Christmas shopping [nope not too early!]. I really love these hand made tea towels and think there will be a few under my tree for friends.<br />

Kirk's always buying me pretty cards - yea, I know, too sweet? I'm sure he stopped at this booth. Lot's of artists have booths at this market even one who makes handmade paper.<br />

<br />
OK - you caught me.....<br />
I've been on vacation.<br />
That's why no blog posts for a while. This year Kirk and I went to the South Pacific and it was really magical. Most of the hotels or lodges we stayed at included an "<b>Island Breakfast</b>". What a treat that was! For starters: we did not have to cook it ourselves.... just kidding! All of the breakfasts included wonderfully fresh fruit. This photo is their serving of muesli- sort of granola with unsweetened yogurt and then lots of fresh mango on top. What a way to start your day.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
On the <a href="http://www.cookislands.travel/" target="_blank">Cook Islands</a> we had some breakfast guests that you do not usually see at your table. Yes, they are sweet but I am glad we do not have to deal with them when we are innsitting.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
At our resort on <a href="http://www.fiji.travel/" target="_blank">Fiji</a> the breakfast buffet was displayed with this funny guy and we had baked beans on toast offered as one of the entree selections. You could also get rice with fish for breakfast...maybe I should try those sometime? I think not. But Kirk did love their vegetable omelettes with local ham.<br />

I am currently working as an <a href="http://www.kcsinnsitting.com/" target="_blank">Interim Innkeeper</a> on the Oregon Coast near the town of Astoria. As you all know by now, when I am not working I like to unwind with a glass of wine so I was very happy to get to attend the <a href="http://www.oldoregon.com/" target="_blank">UnWined </a>event held at the <a href="http://www.libertyastoria.org/" target="_blank">Liberty Theater </a>in Astoria. The Liberty Theater is a beautifully restored 1920's theater that sits like a jewel in the middle of downtown Astoria. Inside it is complete with velvet and stained glass, gilded art work and crystal chandeliers. We have seen concerts and dances there but UnWined was one of the most fun events we have attended in Astoria.<br />

UnWined is a public tasting of all of the wines that were entered in the competion for the 2017 Astoria Seafood Festival. Most of the wines are from the Northwest and in total there were 137 wines to sample - too many even for me!<br />

Pinot Gris is one of my favorite varietals. Look at all the choices I had here. The two I liked best were the Coria Estates 2015 and the Tesoaria Vineyard 2015. YUM!<br />

Kirk really enjoyed this Malbec from Rallison Cellars.<br />
<br />
The judges for the competion where present if you wanted to discuss certain wines . Although we aren't really serious oenophiles but we did place our votes for "People's Choice Award". <br />
<br />
Along with all this wine, there were wonderful seafood appetizers and live music. What a great event UnWined in Astoria was!<br />

One of the fun parts of my job as an <a href="http://www.kcsinnsitting.com/" target="_blank">Interim Innkeeper</a> is that I sometimes get to attend really great inn-keeping conferences.<br />
This year the INNSPIRE conference was held on the<br />
<a href="http://www.queenmary.com/" target="_blank">Queen Mary</a> in Long Beach California. I attended the conference with my long time client Elizabeth Padilla of the <a href="http://www.doveinn.com/" target="_blank">Dove Inn</a>. <br />

Elizabeth and I stayed in one of the historic staterooms for three nights - TOO FUN! I felt like a queen. It was great to imagine all the guests who had stayed there in the past. The <b>Queen Mary</b> has such history. Built in 1935 and decorated in elaborate Art Deco style she really is a thing of beauty. We were always finding new things to ohh and ahh over such as this metal bar rail with Art Deco whisky kegs and dragons etched in pewter.<br />

<br />
Here's one example of Art Deco wood work that adorns the <b>Queen Mary </b>ballroom. Speaking of which, yes, we did get to attend a 1940's theme gala in the ballroom complete with big band music and preceded by cocktails on the aft deck looking out at the lights of LA. Ohh, I love my job!<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
Of course the conference was not all fun. I did attend some very interesting classes [did you know that white vinegar is one of the best laundry cleaners?] and here I am helping out at the Interim Innkeepers Network booth. If you don't know about IIN- it's a group of people who do just what I do and yes, K.C.'s Innsitting Service is a member.<br />
<br />
<br />
Well, now I am back to work but it was fun to be Queen for a few Days! If you have never visited the <b>Queen Mary</b>, you really should go.<br />

Isn't this heavenly? Yes it is, it's <a href="http://www.skiheavenly.com/" target="_blank">Heavenly Ski Area</a> at Lake Tahoe. On our way to our next job as <a href="http://www.kcsinnsitting.com/" target="_blank">Innsitters</a> we stopped here for a week of family ski fun. We've skied lots of places but I really think that Heavenly is the most scenic ski area ever. Bright blue Lake Tahoe is spread out at the bottom of the runs and it almost looks like you could ski right into it. WOW!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgh4DBuIzhGoFrouIZpB_6ZvNvfSLq7h2uOMDyCbweiUnLAx1-HWaz74lThXmeiO-aYn8pL6ORNIRhWYGrKqHQa9SwIfHMU5idT01aec_eQc34kM4eXLA6XWxXFCDjwLuqTlq2wn7AyQ5s/s1600/winter+008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgh4DBuIzhGoFrouIZpB_6ZvNvfSLq7h2uOMDyCbweiUnLAx1-HWaz74lThXmeiO-aYn8pL6ORNIRhWYGrKqHQa9SwIfHMU5idT01aec_eQc34kM4eXLA6XWxXFCDjwLuqTlq2wn7AyQ5s/s400/winter+008.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
One of the funny things about Heavenly Ski Area is that you can ski back and forth from Nevada to California. Sometimes it's hard to decide which state to ski in!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg17fMP4TPiF0QyH_TeKR6ZJJy8oMLij2-RhcyofRNfqNmPyNhwH_Or7BpWcSKrEGgSJ2HwwaRbJhusum6oENDnZOyzpCaqYnQ78GnhJauv2DUruiAH_S3Fa-eIJANF-J3huoOIauw7ejc/s1600/winter+011.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg17fMP4TPiF0QyH_TeKR6ZJJy8oMLij2-RhcyofRNfqNmPyNhwH_Or7BpWcSKrEGgSJ2HwwaRbJhusum6oENDnZOyzpCaqYnQ78GnhJauv2DUruiAH_S3Fa-eIJANF-J3huoOIauw7ejc/s400/winter+011.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Of course the little ski bunny took another lesson and then went skiing with TayCee and Grandad [that's a little stuffed bunny that Grandad is wearing in his sweater]. She's really getting bold and even skied one run all by herself [with just a little help from Grandad].<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
At the end of the day, we took the aerial tram down to the base of Heavenly Ski Area and all the way down we could look out over stunning Lake Tahoe.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

There are lots of other fun things to do at Lake Tahoe in the winter. We spent one day Nordic skiing at <a href="http://www.northstarcalifornia.com/" target="_blank">Northstar Ski Area</a>. I do not know what this caboose is doing here in the woods but it made a great resting place. We skied about 8 miles at 9000 ft elevation and I was tired! But it was a lovely day and there was no one else on the trails with us, just lots of snow covered trees - so beautiful!<br />

Heavenly Ski Area has a charming village with shops, restaurants and an ice rink so of course the whole family wanted to go skating before dinner.<br />

<br />
This is our "ranch" in the snow. Kirk and I no longer take <a href="http://www.kcsinnsitting.com/" target="_blank">innsitting</a> assignments over the Christmas holidays so that we can spend some fun days at home playing in the snow with our family. It's especially great when we have these two little snow bunnies to play with. We made a snowman [Charleigh helped with that] and we had a snowball fight. Here we are having fun on a sled but we also have fun on skis.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvriAzqERXol-RcF8hP5fofkmHyhenIs_2m_34TmV2_0iZJib2cv4lrX6ofP6F0djQpIPi-qwqjttSCG1FgjeTma5LRkdZlVVIYKiKxLYETO_uxopPf330i5zNQAouDTLc_p3xwVU6ZjI/s1600/008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvriAzqERXol-RcF8hP5fofkmHyhenIs_2m_34TmV2_0iZJib2cv4lrX6ofP6F0djQpIPi-qwqjttSCG1FgjeTma5LRkdZlVVIYKiKxLYETO_uxopPf330i5zNQAouDTLc_p3xwVU6ZjI/s320/008.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Guess who had their first ski lesson at <a href="http://www.skihood.com/" target="_blank">Mt Hood Meadows</a> ski area this year? Yup, the littlest bunny, ! Here she is checking out her equipment with Grandad. Her skis, boots and helmet all had stickers that said Eleanor on them - how special! Mt Hood Meadows has a great beginner program that includes a half day of day care [ so Mom can go skiing with us] , equipment rental, a lift ticket and a one hour lesson.<br />
<br />
They make it so fun for the little ones with a special area roped off for snow play. Her instructor even pointed out the UNICORN prints in the snow! <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Here she is after her lesson using her lift ticket and already going up on the "magic carpet" and skiing a few runs with Grandad and TayCee. We all had such fun playing in the snow!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
What she really likes to do is "ski fast", "ski fast Grandad". It's so great to see her little face light up and see how much fun she has playing in the snow.<br />
Pretty soon she will be out skiing her grandma.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Here we are "apres ski" all tired out but happy! Next, upstairs for hot cocoa and cookies then home to the snowy ranch!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
What a great ending to our family holiday celebration.<br />
<br />
Now back to work for the two lazy innkeepers!<br />

<br />
I love Christmas Carols, don't you?<br />
<br />
Every December, if I am not working as an<a href="http://www.kcsinnsitting.com/" target="_blank"> Innsitter</a>, we go to Seattle to visit friends and family. One of the wonderful holiday traditions we enjoy there is the <b>Christmas Caroling Party</b> at the Stillman home.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhz6zJM40Q6gqqPW0EDFKaX0lZ637Oc2UTxQ5rF4JpSZU8DS2bDvPfR25zza8xJfMqmn7ltn7eOP27aAiJG-wWrZKoTwTGP4DvdXau-LPRQF4KRUUYXUjFA72izGAbXWEak-PjUJ9MTCgA/s1600/009.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhz6zJM40Q6gqqPW0EDFKaX0lZ637Oc2UTxQ5rF4JpSZU8DS2bDvPfR25zza8xJfMqmn7ltn7eOP27aAiJG-wWrZKoTwTGP4DvdXau-LPRQF4KRUUYXUjFA72izGAbXWEak-PjUJ9MTCgA/s400/009.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Charlie and Susie Stillman are the hosts of this annual party as well as the parents of our son-in-law and also good friends of ours. We always look forward to their<br />
<b>Christmas Caroling Party</b>.<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
There are lots of good voices [I am NOT one of those but I do love to sing carols!]. There is also usually an accompanist and this year we had a very exuberant rhythm section. Aren't they sweet little angels?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMT0mMInPulhU_Hk7HKThlHFJs6qETq74pIdYeF7ZBYtOGgeaA5DeNKPUWTDrASETTaCVIWh0kYMBOdfDjRf1ash_Y2hp_m7Aq3hFpF3uuEAdZ2dQcCnGsfsqGzSho-M2tiVlessV5uDY/s1600/007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMT0mMInPulhU_Hk7HKThlHFJs6qETq74pIdYeF7ZBYtOGgeaA5DeNKPUWTDrASETTaCVIWh0kYMBOdfDjRf1ash_Y2hp_m7Aq3hFpF3uuEAdZ2dQcCnGsfsqGzSho-M2tiVlessV5uDY/s320/007.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Of course all that singing can make you work up and appetite. Susie and Charlie put out a great spread of party treats to be enjoyed by all.<br />
<br />
<br />
Including a very elaborate cheese board with labels to help identify cheeses from all over the world. Yum!<br />
<br />

<br />
Below is my wonderful son-in-law, Fred, carving turkey for all of us.<br />
<br />
Such a great <b>Christmas Caroling Party</b>! Such a great way to enjoy family and friends at the holidays.<br />
<br />
I hope you all are enjoying wonderful holiday traditions of your own.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
It really is a <b>Wonderful Life</b>! One of the wonderful things in my life is that the last few holidays I have gotten to be an <a href="http://www.kcsinnsitting.com/" target="_blank">Interim Innkeeper </a>in Cannon Beach Oregon. Kirk and I have a tradition of attending the holiday show at the <a href="http://www.coastertheater.com/" target="_blank">Coaster Theater.</a> This year we really enjoyed their performance of "It's a Wonderful Life".<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh59EfuckBiIUwe42cbSxds4bwEC7VLXkcnTUWEvEUpG1V7BahsxmLmSQRULd7nWbtNS-4SgYaaYG9m5O66VspBdQ3JmKCk6D120tBTo_3IOt_Ev1uv3XvATZlBUmh4yTx3hSz5hvj2ZzA/s1600/007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh59EfuckBiIUwe42cbSxds4bwEC7VLXkcnTUWEvEUpG1V7BahsxmLmSQRULd7nWbtNS-4SgYaaYG9m5O66VspBdQ3JmKCk6D120tBTo_3IOt_Ev1uv3XvATZlBUmh4yTx3hSz5hvj2ZzA/s400/007.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
One of our other holiday traditions is to have our daughter and our little granddaughter come to visit us to celebrate the <a href="http://www.cannonbeach.org/" target="_blank">Haystack Holidays.</a> in Cannon Beach.<br />
<br />
<br />
We usually start our weekend with a visit to Santa in Seaside at the Providence Festival of the Trees. This year they had story telling, cookie decorating, ornament making and all kinds of things for little ones [and not so little ones] to do.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQIVPH7dmuAxtev1kUIQS9jcr_TKUwPN9TPbFABVfhJs4rWsb_uHpSbGaVIkpd7DdEMpuDtVKNLC-aAI2_pnu5r2NBrMEIPjduinBjoOACQ7i_TQA8766m6bPUGdGJoummRksFuepT2ZM/s1600/001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQIVPH7dmuAxtev1kUIQS9jcr_TKUwPN9TPbFABVfhJs4rWsb_uHpSbGaVIkpd7DdEMpuDtVKNLC-aAI2_pnu5r2NBrMEIPjduinBjoOACQ7i_TQA8766m6bPUGdGJoummRksFuepT2ZM/s320/001.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Then we try to fit in time to feed the seals at the Seaside Aquarium and ride the beautiful carousel at Carousel Mall - this year we rode it FOUR times.... they actually have two reindeer as carousel animals! After all of this we end up with the Lamp Lighting at Sandpiper Square in Cannon Beach. Then we go back to our room happy but TayCee is exhausted!!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
What a wonderful weekend!<br />

<br />
This is the time of year when we all take a moment to feel grateful for the wonderful things in our lives. I am grateful for my work as an<a href="http://www.kcsinnsitting.com/" target="_blank"> innsitter</a> which I love. I am also grateful that my parents, who still live in <a href="http://www.grinnellchamber.org/" target="_blank">Grinnell Iowa</a> where I grew up, are healthy enough in their early 90's to enjoy some time being really GREAT great grandparents.<br />

WOW !! It's <b>Women Only Weekend </b>in Cannon Beach. The <a href="http://www.cannonbeachhotel.com/" target="_blank">Cannon Beach Hotel</a> was one of the sponsors of this fabulous weekend and as <a href="http://www.kcsinnsitting.com/" target="_blank">Interim Innkeeper</a> for the hotel, I got to attend some of the events at the Women Only Weekend. What FUN!<br />

<a href="http://www.kcsinnsitting.com/" target="_blank"><br /></a>
The first event was the "Launch Party" where I won a free facial from Sandviks Oils. Don't I look wonderful? This party also had live music, great food, wine, vendors and prizes. What it did not have was MEN. I mean it's<br />
<b>Women Only Weekend</b><br />

<br />
<br />
The second night of <b>Women Only Weekend </b>the "Wine Down" party was held at the Cannon Beach Hotel. Guess who got to hostess that? Yup, yours truly [have I mentioned how much I LOVE my job?]. I mean I have lots of experience so might as well put it to good use!<br />

<br />
<br />
The featured vendor at our event was Marcia Miller author of <a href="http://www.yougogirlstravel.com/" target="_blank">"You Go Girls!"</a> travel book. She is also a travel consultant and guide. You know no one travels more than I do so it was very interesting for me to hear some of her tips for the perfect trip.<br />
<br />
We had quite a fun crowd of women at the hotel to drink wine, eat delicious treats from the Cannon Beach Cafe and talk to Marcia about women on the go.<br />

It's a spooky time of year at the<a href="http://www.cannonbeachhotel.com/" target="_blank"> Cannon Beach Hotel</a> . I am currently the <a href="http://www.kcsinnsitting.com/" target="_blank">Relief Manager</a> here but look at my assistant Boris...... isn't he boootiful!! He even has his own name tag. Boris helps greet our guests during the Halloween Season and on Halloween Eve we encourage all the little trick or treaters to have their picture taken with Boris. He's very popular!<br />

Boris and I both love all the spooky little touches around the Cannon Beach Hotel. Notice the crow on the front desk and the cat on the mantel. On Halloween all of the staff gets to dress in costume if they like. I guess I'll go as a manager. What do you think? <br />

<br />
This is my favorite spooky little touch - a friend of mine sent it to me. Is't it perfect??<br />
<br />
<br />
Of course it's not all about the decor at my Dead and Breakfasts - I get to arrange flowers and pumpkins, I get to oversee Halloween parties and trick or treaters. I also get to bake......<br />
<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
<br />
These are my delicious pumpkin muffins. Make some for yourself this Halloween and see how good they are.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
K.C.'s Pumpkin Muffin Recipe - <br />
<br />
Blend 1/2 C oil, 2 eggs, 1/3 C water, and 1 C pumpkin<br />
Add 1 + 3/4 C flour, 1 + 1/2 C sugar, 1 t soda<br />
Stir in a pinch of salt and lots of spices [I use cinnamon, ginger, and apple pie spice]<br />
Bake at 350 for 25 minutes<br />
<br />
If you like you may top with apricot glaze:<br />
Mix 1/4 C melted butter, 1/4 C powdered sugar, and 2T of apricot jam<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<br />

<br />
Between <a href="http://www.kcsinnsitting.com/" target="_blank">innsitting</a> assignments this year we got to spend some time in the <b>Wild West</b> . It is such a beautiful area and has so much to offer. First we stopped in <a href="http://www.yellowstonecountry.org/" target="_blank">Cody Wyoming</a> where Kirk and his friend Glenn spent ALL DAY at the Buffalo Bill Museum. Of course while they were doing this, I was shopping with my friend Ruthie. That night we all went to a wonderful wild west show at the center. Here we are all dressed up in our western best. <br />

Kirk and I also stopped in for a drink at Buffalo Bill's hotel in Cody Wyoming - the Irma. Such a great bar and so much Wild West history there!<br />

After Cody, we drove to Yellowstone Park. It's always stunning in the fall and this year was no exception. There was lots of wildlife including this big elk and many buffalo. We also saw a Canadian wolf which I had never seen before - he was awe inspiring! But I was not quick enough to get a photo.<br />

We ended our Wild West tour with drinks at the Old Faithful Lodge in Yellowstone Park and sat on the deck to watch old faithful erupt right on time! We just love this part of the world and it was a great little vacation but, now it's on to our next job and back to work!<br />

<br />
"Let 'er Buck" is the official motto of the <a href="http://www.pendletonroundup.com/" target="_blank">Pendleton Round-up</a> held in Pendleton Oregon the second week of September. We always try to take a break from <a href="http://www.kcsinnsitting.com/" target="_blank">innsitting</a> so that we can attend and it is always fun! There is so much to see and do and usually our family and friends join us.<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
Look who joined us this year - the Littlest Cowgirl. This is actually her second Pendleton Round-Up. She loves rodeo, go figure!<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbVq1OVhzsGIPWgc7_RhKNUgI-RUCWi3kpQ-_QnFp9VBOPgjEsKW1bW-Oo_8j2BC-7lBeJgTawCnpdMWm7OER8fupKE22K_PfZOhXIFwN8TBNsVTJc45ghtN62DboyqsRuiB82EJWkVdw/s1600/013.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbVq1OVhzsGIPWgc7_RhKNUgI-RUCWi3kpQ-_QnFp9VBOPgjEsKW1bW-Oo_8j2BC-7lBeJgTawCnpdMWm7OER8fupKE22K_PfZOhXIFwN8TBNsVTJc45ghtN62DboyqsRuiB82EJWkVdw/s320/013.JPG" width="240" /></a><br />In these photos she is watching the Team Roping while holding her new horsey named "Coco Puff" [it has black spots]. Grandad knows a lot about rodeo and is giving her all sorts of information.<br />
<br />
She even knows how to say<b> "Let 'er buck"</b> !<br />
<br />
Besides the rodeo each day the Pendleton Round-Up hosts the worlds largest non-motorized parade on Friday morning. This is an amazing show with lots of horses, rodeo queens, cowboys and all things western.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVS9skoCmXqvrL-CNRFsrmU3vOf-Feob4v-Tnjim72fRigIFwEKdfLQkyBTjVH1TiuRG2Do8djvk6fULl8QnEPVaJ2yEERFuLwZSrxgfFFAcri-nIPmTCzDcTaoa7YPLj6knUfxYS-vf0/s1600/017.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVS9skoCmXqvrL-CNRFsrmU3vOf-Feob4v-Tnjim72fRigIFwEKdfLQkyBTjVH1TiuRG2Do8djvk6fULl8QnEPVaJ2yEERFuLwZSrxgfFFAcri-nIPmTCzDcTaoa7YPLj6knUfxYS-vf0/s320/017.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>

<br />
<br />
My favorite part of the parade is the mounted band - you try beating a drum on the back of your horse and see what happens! They play in the parade but also at the Cowboy Breakfast and all over town for the week of round-up.<br />
<br />
Eleanor's favorite part is all the queens who ride with crowns on their cowboy hats and flowers behind their saddles.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNAAzynNt9KODgJD8uYr9iOv85D_03On6ZY36NaSvvWf-FlUQ-0SnnVxuLR9wy3-jpkj9KEWfav7J7_gWML13grxEwBZg5ptfdcjjLMBWnEXZQdVJkO54HLc5Ll38gLoJSBgLCjoxzkAA/s1600/005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNAAzynNt9KODgJD8uYr9iOv85D_03On6ZY36NaSvvWf-FlUQ-0SnnVxuLR9wy3-jpkj9KEWfav7J7_gWML13grxEwBZg5ptfdcjjLMBWnEXZQdVJkO54HLc5Ll38gLoJSBgLCjoxzkAA/s320/005.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
There is a lot to do at the Pendleton Round-Up. Besides the rodeo, parade and cowboy breakfast there is also music, dancing and lots of SHOPPING! Here we are at Hamley's historic saddle shop. The littlest cowgirl is trying out a new saddle but you can also buy boots, hats, ropes, and even clothing - anything western. This year we got her a tiny little cowgirl hat, "Let'er Buck". <br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHbbQ3HwQGi4Mi8hIUzR8R6OJ9ukpa2nGhLHwXPH-7K29y_11yEN_5wAJawRrdp9jKECFf4gYYoU_FF36T_ytzlr-knhTJY4_bCpbCIZaxQ1QXM8IyWmW99y4uete1BSADg90RA4i1_yc/s1600/016.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHbbQ3HwQGi4Mi8hIUzR8R6OJ9ukpa2nGhLHwXPH-7K29y_11yEN_5wAJawRrdp9jKECFf4gYYoU_FF36T_ytzlr-knhTJY4_bCpbCIZaxQ1QXM8IyWmW99y4uete1BSADg90RA4i1_yc/s320/016.JPG" width="240" /></a><br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
So if you are ever in Oregon the second week in September, come to the Pendleton Round-Up and say -<br />
<br />
<b>"Let 'er Buck"</b><br />

We are lucky enough to be <a href="http://www.kcsinnsitting.com/" target="_blank">Interim Innkeepers </a>for several inns located in the <a href="http://www.visitsanjuans.com/" target="_blank">islands of the Northwest</a>. We call these our<br />
"Island Inns" and we love them. Life seems to be just a bit slower here on the islands and all of our guests are very laid back.<br />
<br />
Lopez Island [or Slowpez Island] is called the "friendly island". One of the things you learn quickly on Lopez is that everyone waves at everyone else while driving - so if you get here, don't forget to wave!<br />

A bunch of fit young ladies and one old mountain man - however, Mt Daniel has some real mountain climbing and Kirk was able to give the group a brief lesson on equipment use and snow safety, something he has had years of experience with. I think they were all happy to have him along in the Great Outdoors.<br />

<br />
As <a href="http://www.kcsinnsitting.com/" target="_blank">Professional Innsitters</a> we often get asked what is our favorite B&B. That's a hard question because we like all "our" properties and as Kirk often says, "the don't put B&B's in places you wouldn't want to visit".<br />
But we really do love the <a href="http://www.doveinn.com/" target="_blank">Dove Inn</a> in Golden Colorado. We have been taking care of the "Dove" for almost 10 years and it is like a second home to us.<br />

It also happens to be for sale! Do any of you want to buy a lovely B&B in Colorado? We have worked for two owners here and would be happy to work for the next owner.<br />

The Dove Inn was built sometime in the 1880's and has many<br />
charming features from that time such as the old fireplace, lovely wood floors, narrow steep staircase and in the kitchen the old well is still hidden under the floor!<br />
The photo below was taken sometime in the late 1800's and the building with the white porch pillars is the Dove Inn with it's barn to the right.<br />

<br />
Look how the front yard has changed in 150 years! It's much greener now and Kirk helps keep it that way.<br />
<br />
<br />
So, if you're considering buying a B&B, consider the Dove Inn!<br />

<br />
In between two of our assignments as <a href="http://www.kcsinnsitting.com/" target="_blank">Professional Innsitters</a> we got to spend some time at the <a href="http://www.mtrainierguestservices.com/" target="_blank">Paradise Inn</a> on Mt Rainer as TayCee and Grandad with our favorite little travel buddy.<br />
<br />
The Paradise Inn is one of those classic old lodges built in the 20's filled with all sorts of charming rustic touches such as a large lobby with two fireplaces and hand painted floral parchment lanterns. It also has a lovely dinning room where we ate and this enchanting mailbox where we mailed a post card to Great Grandma [Nana].<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
In the morning we got to hike the "paradise trail" which meanders around the base of Mt Rainier through old growth trees and fields of wildflowers. Our little Grandbunny really likes to go hiking - as long as Grandad does the work! She's a true north-westerner. Even a little rain did not bother her. When we ran into some snow on the ground she said "TayCee pick me some snow" and then she carried her little snowball till it melted. Too cute!<br />

<br />
<b>"Farm to Table" </b>is an expression you hear a lot about these days - as <a href="http://www.kcsinnsitting.com/" target="_blank">Professional Innsitters</a> we get to do farm to table often. It's especially easy in the summer when all the local fruit is ripe. So, one of the first things we do when we get to a new job is to go check and see what is fresh at the nearest fruit stand. Look at these berries! We can walk from our B&B to see the ladies who pick these for us!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwfr1WBa5GmeJpcjzLyTQZk-g4jW8-Sm79k9Kn-HMX7g1YALk2I2DIAfyS9BZ7jNeVq-VgHHxGkhUBMGGjgPtg3AIUCoe0KgBSG8PSWzW32zhXJOsx4H5H-bUXkj8d_2JYw7n0w-M41Jg/s1600/018.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwfr1WBa5GmeJpcjzLyTQZk-g4jW8-Sm79k9Kn-HMX7g1YALk2I2DIAfyS9BZ7jNeVq-VgHHxGkhUBMGGjgPtg3AIUCoe0KgBSG8PSWzW32zhXJOsx4H5H-bUXkj8d_2JYw7n0w-M41Jg/s200/018.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
Because it is summer and because you are my favorite readers, I will share some of my "oh so easy" farm to table recipes. On the right is my "Berries Romanoff ". Too easy - just mix sour cream with brown sugar till it is sweet enough for you, let it sit overnight and then stir and pour over fresh berries!<br />

This is a stuffed croissant baked like french toast and covered with fresh strawberries and whipped cream - so rich, so tasty! Just slice a really big croissant, spread cream cheese in the middle, soak in french toast batter and bake at 375 for 15 minutes, flipping once.<br />
<br />
Shhhh- don't tell anybody how easy this is, ok?<br />

As with any really fresh fruit, you need to go from farm to table pretty quickly. But here is thing you can do if your peaches get too ripe.<br />
K.C.'s Quick Peach Muffins: make any muffin batter you like but make it a little dryer than normal, hold a really ripe peach over the bowl and slice off chunks into the batter so that the juice also drips into the bowl. Then add some ginger and cinnamon and bake. Tasty farm to table Peach Muffins!<br />

As<a href="http://www.kcsinnsitting.com/" target="_blank"> Professional Innsitters</a> we get to work in a lot of beautiful homes: old victorians, charming cottages and modern town houses. We do not get to see places like this! On our recent vacation we saw lots of amazing architecture and I'm going to share some of my favorites with you...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

A lot of truly amazing architecture is to be found in <a href="http://www.visitportugal.com/" target="_blank">Portugal</a>. Both of these two palaces are in Sintra. The Pena Palace above is a fantastical pastel concoction that sits on top of a mountain looking down on all the other palaces. From there you can take a lovely stroll down to town.The Regaline Palace is done in the Manualine [lavishly overdecorated] style of architecture that is so popular in Portugal. This one because has a 100ft deep well with carved staircase that you can follow down to a cave!<br />

Here's another Manualine Palace ,a really lovely complex with a lake surrounded by palm trees- the Mataeus Palace in the Duro Valley outside of Porto. Yup, it's where good old Mataeus Rose wine was made. It is sill a winery and they make much better wine now - good thing Kirk was driving on our tour of the Duro Valley so that I could sip as much as I wanted! We stopped at several wineries some in palaces and some in old farmsteads.<br />

Look closely at this amazing architecture - uh huh, human skulls used as molding! This is the Chapel of the Bones in Evora. All the walls in the chapel where made of bones to remind us how fleeting life is. Spooky!<br />

This wonderful architecture is in <a href="http://www.visitmorocco.com/" target="_blank">Morocco</a> but it is called the Portuguese Cistern because it was designed by a Portuguese architect. It is a hauntingly lovely cistern that has been in El Jadida for 800 years. Now the floor is covered with just a few inches of water to create beautiful photos such as this one.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Morocco itself is filled with amazing architecture - lots of very ornate plaster, stone, glass and wood work. The Islamic decorations are very geometric and detailed and some of them are very ancient. This door way is a mosque in Fez. Of course we could not go in but our guide showed us where to stand to get a peek and take a picture while the local men went to worship.<br />

This classic horseshoe archway is in an old Madersa or school that has been in Fez for 900 years - it used to be a place for Islamic students to study and now it is a place for tourists to be amazed.<br />
<br />
<br />
As you can see we had an amazing vacation and the architecture was a big part of it.<br />

My little grandaughter, Eleanor, calles me TayCee... I know, too cute right? This year on our vacation from <a href="http://www.kcsinnsitting.com/" target="_blank">Innsitting</a> Kirk and I went to <a href="http://www.muchmorocco.com/" target="_blank">Morocco</a> and guess who went with us? Well, of course her mother came along too so it was a real family affair. I have to admit I was nervous about a baby in Morocco but she was treated like a princess and it was a great place to have a little one.<br />

<br />
Here we are having breakfast in our apartment [part of an old palace decorated with the most beautiful tile and plaster work you have ever seen] before going out to explore the ancient city of Fez. Our "home" was right in the middle of the warren of streets that makes up the old Medina but Noura [that's Arabic for Eleanor] did just fine with the crowds, donkeys, and noise. We had fun seeing sights and shopping - in the leather market she was given a tiny pair of slippers with sequins on them.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1APT0PwVymBvaukmB81T2Ps4r6GsMqdodJkkKyir1f062vI64wPgqRYQteqrp94LU-9GOcDDToVNaEaCmQIrUrKPIG7uWPaE5F72dqsqBNhGdn_TAF0B7laAlS30h-RWIelrcsaXKfM4/s1600/021.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1APT0PwVymBvaukmB81T2Ps4r6GsMqdodJkkKyir1f062vI64wPgqRYQteqrp94LU-9GOcDDToVNaEaCmQIrUrKPIG7uWPaE5F72dqsqBNhGdn_TAF0B7laAlS30h-RWIelrcsaXKfM4/s320/021.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
That night we had dinner at a restaurant called the "Ruined Garden". Yup, it was in a beautifully haunting ruined garden attached to a ruined palace. The food in Morocco is not varied but it is delicious - farm to table is the only way. Noura loved the tagines: rice with vegetables and chicken cooked in a cone shaped pottery dish then brought to your table as a pyramid of food.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSxXQXphkTeGifpP0qpODqc-NqChWxtDt7mi_83weVjUgZapBHIokTXvjla0LS_POGX8cqX1jKdkDUz94GasUsVgLQ11OuheJ3BtFkEM-Os-NetjqFakTuNULP5pyL7sfzAAaz2tf_gVA/s1600/039.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSxXQXphkTeGifpP0qpODqc-NqChWxtDt7mi_83weVjUgZapBHIokTXvjla0LS_POGX8cqX1jKdkDUz94GasUsVgLQ11OuheJ3BtFkEM-Os-NetjqFakTuNULP5pyL7sfzAAaz2tf_gVA/s320/039.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
From Fez, we went to the Sahara - what a stunning place! Noura got to ride a camel and loved it. Here she is getting up close and personal with TayCee's mount. Behind us is Ali, our host, who set up our camel ride in the desert and just LOVED the little one. He watched over her with an eagle eye. When she was ill, he brought her yogurt and as we left he gave her a hand made shirt that said "sahara" on it.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
Then on to Marrakesh. We had another Medina apartment. This one had a lovely private roof top deck with a covered sitting area and then a skylight to the "riad" below. This photo is a "dance party" on the deck before going out for the evening. The baby's favorite thing in Marrakesh was a fun horse drawn carriage ride from the famous "al Fna" square back to our "home".<br />

Our last stop in Morocco was the seaside town of Essouria where Noura and TayCee loved to get their toes wet in the ocean. Here we had a magical blue and white house right on the ancient city walls and we had lots of fun exploring the fortifications. Of course we also took time to buy a few last trinkets from Morocco and have a few more great dinners.<br />

<br />
Here I am with Claudia Toutain-Dorbec and Tina Sicilia having fun at the Oregon Bed and Breakfast Guild annual conference. <a href="http://www.kcsinnsitting.com/" target="_blank">K.C.'s Innsitting Service </a>is a vendor member of the <a href="http://www.obbg.org/" target="_blank">Oregon Bed and Breakfast Guild</a> . However, I usually do not get to attend the conference because I am usually working somewhere. This year the conference was held at the coast and I happened to be working at the coast.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwL-4AkuYquob-CZgwIlZ20ScGfkiV3-tlKcHJmGlYRK2fj8HlbekMknIKIzhzZY8UG4K0zUqU8uatDrsCuAVKx38UTo3XSf8w_u3yHMTOYizknD4GaThCXOnpjZjti5pEJmw2aXjI1W8/s1600/005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwL-4AkuYquob-CZgwIlZ20ScGfkiV3-tlKcHJmGlYRK2fj8HlbekMknIKIzhzZY8UG4K0zUqU8uatDrsCuAVKx38UTo3XSf8w_u3yHMTOYizknD4GaThCXOnpjZjti5pEJmw2aXjI1W8/s320/005.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
So, even though I was working, I was able to attend the dinner. It was great fun to get to see old friends and clients as well as network with B&B owners who might not be aware of my service - maybe create new clients, who knows?<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLJAkpc-o1igHAsv1rsGlc44XMKQHvCl7SdHpXxOEEHk4QkwEZmsjgTYdyaUgH3I-NTFTE-XpYbXG8eMSgDbsH0Kf6dY2AL1IqKi_LkGZmyQlGUTuWm4yPEJmX4dP43X5U9iFjlZljGhc/s1600/004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLJAkpc-o1igHAsv1rsGlc44XMKQHvCl7SdHpXxOEEHk4QkwEZmsjgTYdyaUgH3I-NTFTE-XpYbXG8eMSgDbsH0Kf6dY2AL1IqKi_LkGZmyQlGUTuWm4yPEJmX4dP43X5U9iFjlZljGhc/s200/004.JPG" width="200" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Because the conference was at the coast, the dinner was a lavish seafood buffet. I admit I had two of these shrimp coctails [hey, no calories in those things, right?]<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEdGWE8E3AGgHw09SdaQbXGANGl_ABJikanOZCF-Y8K5WOIrN3QQNYD8ERWOS02SKTT0whluXSr2W2uOqCTZd7vbDAPJAJdSNOcOlgjQftHrZwb_m-dYyioVjE59rAWGPfzfn8h8wEwVg/s1600/006.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEdGWE8E3AGgHw09SdaQbXGANGl_ABJikanOZCF-Y8K5WOIrN3QQNYD8ERWOS02SKTT0whluXSr2W2uOqCTZd7vbDAPJAJdSNOcOlgjQftHrZwb_m-dYyioVjE59rAWGPfzfn8h8wEwVg/s320/006.JPG" width="320" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
After dinner there was a drawing for prizes and of course I did not win anything. But I did have a lot of fun and I was happy that for once I got to attend at least part of the <b>Oregon Bed and Breakfast Guild </b>annual conference. <br />
<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUGpK2u-UBkuDlS1huewQ37ApdkuOZb4TxKzsY8wl7B2akiH_vR1WHYPG_PgpahC1WZ2mVxkheVp2rGCawvEdXsULVPPwdRJr70FZerD71ggYig-cSda8TYu2h5v84imJ2ULxTGYD3S_M/s1600/005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUGpK2u-UBkuDlS1huewQ37ApdkuOZb4TxKzsY8wl7B2akiH_vR1WHYPG_PgpahC1WZ2mVxkheVp2rGCawvEdXsULVPPwdRJr70FZerD71ggYig-cSda8TYu2h5v84imJ2ULxTGYD3S_M/s400/005.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
One of the things Kirk and I like to do when we travel as <a href="http://www.kcsinnsitting.com/" target="_blank">Professional Innsitters</a> or just as tourists is seek out live music. We like many types of music but<b> Jazz</b> is not one of our favorites. However this month we got to experience the <a href="http://www.jazzseaside.com/" target="_blank">Seaside Jazz Festival </a> and it was really a great experience!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsgb9e1x57BXwVe1oGXh52zDN_nyFWcKKL2IYnRVAmQnLkMVaKlmWRZscz_akS8jm3tJXAGF3eu2MUlbZm5oMfL5Ny7eFK-G5cqwH8QqSu6YK7EwUTV8rr1vZPXpm40AQ46MeyYiYgmPg/s1600/003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsgb9e1x57BXwVe1oGXh52zDN_nyFWcKKL2IYnRVAmQnLkMVaKlmWRZscz_akS8jm3tJXAGF3eu2MUlbZm5oMfL5Ny7eFK-G5cqwH8QqSu6YK7EwUTV8rr1vZPXpm40AQ46MeyYiYgmPg/s320/003.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
We were able to listen to all sorts of music: Dixeland, Swing, Piano, and even a 50's style doo-wop band. I guess <b>Jazz </b>is a broader term than I thought. We both really enjoyed most of the music we heard.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIn5juqLBY61EsuBs9A6Hn0UQswZL6cQnJUinKRQNWYbXGAYHCyc68y6Wj_GKD4ZDCsfE4FjzUOmbH-m-cHQ9F3l4gQyMuakLxgezxalYjJN93T1RyJbshzduVOXv5-0Zrge8gwedk4Kg/s1600/001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIn5juqLBY61EsuBs9A6Hn0UQswZL6cQnJUinKRQNWYbXGAYHCyc68y6Wj_GKD4ZDCsfE4FjzUOmbH-m-cHQ9F3l4gQyMuakLxgezxalYjJN93T1RyJbshzduVOXv5-0Zrge8gwedk4Kg/s200/001.JPG" width="200" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
The bands come from all over the country as do the patrons. Of course most of the other festival goers knew much more about jazz then we did. We just enjoyed listening and dancing.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIVbL8p0dxG591VMGrU56TFxV_kQxZv3n_4bBQsaYyl-Ki6xK4YCIBGn-MMY7I_idRcOc2QqoHXdUBea7LHqmRre2jCOjNlSzHdKvF7_DXkNKiZSZunjI3Y8tPvD1O03IhJa5V4BIXrF4/s1600/004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIVbL8p0dxG591VMGrU56TFxV_kQxZv3n_4bBQsaYyl-Ki6xK4YCIBGn-MMY7I_idRcOc2QqoHXdUBea7LHqmRre2jCOjNlSzHdKvF7_DXkNKiZSZunjI3Y8tPvD1O03IhJa5V4BIXrF4/s320/004.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Yup, our deep dark secret is that Kirk and I like to dance. But we were really out of our league here. Many of these couples could really "cut a rug". Many of them also wore costumes: flapper, jitterbug etc... Anyhow it was fun to watch and we learned a few new moves.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7HxfkYwhAoIGo-f8BENZhyphenhyphen1ndRP4mP2QNEiNnHlKjGZb8Sv1G4uSAz5-WR1iKl6Xu3zbC_r3fWsYmRViVA8JkI2HI0jQhuo3mZAQz1r81GsgkoqhEoG1gxLzM4gKW5X1yCepB_Z2Cqdw/s1600/002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7HxfkYwhAoIGo-f8BENZhyphenhyphen1ndRP4mP2QNEiNnHlKjGZb8Sv1G4uSAz5-WR1iKl6Xu3zbC_r3fWsYmRViVA8JkI2HI0jQhuo3mZAQz1r81GsgkoqhEoG1gxLzM4gKW5X1yCepB_Z2Cqdw/s400/002.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
So if you like<b> Jazz </b>or even if you don't, you should go to the Seaside Jaz Festival. It's fun!<br />
What is your favorite type of music?<br />

<br />
Yes, sometimes being an <a href="http://www.kcsinnsitting.com/" target="_blank">Interim Innkeeper</a> can be a fun and glamorous job but other times... not so much. It can also entail a lot of housekeeping: cleaning toilets, making beds, ironing pillow cases.... not fun or glamorous! My current assignment is at the <a href="http://www.cannonbeachhotellodgings.com/" target="_blank">Cannon Beach Hotel</a> and I am very lucky to have a fabulous housekeeping staff who does all of that! Great housekeepers are the unsung heroes of the hospitality industry and we are fortunate to have several working here.<br />
This is Silvia giving a clean sweep to the lobby - she's a little dynamo. I wish I had her energy.<br />

This is Lottie Bowechop our very competent "head housekeeper". Here she is early in the morning making out the task lists for each employee. No, she is not drinking two bottles of champagne before work - the Cannon Beach Hotel puts a complimentary bottle of bubbly in the room for each guest celebrating a special occasion. Nice touch,huh?<br />
<br />

Here's Maribel - housekeeper and laundress extraordinaire - hard at work. Don't I wish that all my properties had this great laundry room to work with and Maribel to help me?<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
One of the things I do for the housekeeping staff is host the weekly employee meeting where we go over issues and plan for the upcoming week. This meeting was also a birthday party for two of the staff - just one little way to say "thank you" to everybody. Although I say THANK YOU everyday to the people who give a clean sweep to the hotel and help keep my job fun and glamorous, they are the best!</div>

<br />
Another road trip - this one to <b>Whistler B.C</b> home of the 2010 Olympics. This was not a work trip as <a href="http://www.kcsinnsitting.com/" target="_blank">Professional Innsitters</a> but a fun family ski trip - the BEST! We stopped in Seattle to pick up our daughter and granddaughter. And then drove north to B.C.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVBSKGykZzkXpsT4QZL-XEDrSupSdZajcpoAtAtt4akkb0TJCPe23mgDwlJMa8X5jXuhACAkoC9nZhyphenhyphenxqJH8IzClGmxpBhFUIx_2RH8q7KvFGvk6k1_4TqGPaSUE34V05IuUFsm1uoN6w/s1600/023.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVBSKGykZzkXpsT4QZL-XEDrSupSdZajcpoAtAtt4akkb0TJCPe23mgDwlJMa8X5jXuhACAkoC9nZhyphenhyphenxqJH8IzClGmxpBhFUIx_2RH8q7KvFGvk6k1_4TqGPaSUE34V05IuUFsm1uoN6w/s320/023.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The skiing area is really two mountains: <a href="http://ww.whistlerblackcomb.com/" target="_blank">Whistler and Blackcomb</a>. In order to get from one area to the other you take this incredible gondola over a valley 1,400 feet below you! What a ride! The scenery from the gondola is just stunning - mountains and glaciers all around and the valley and Whistler village far below - WOW!<br />

The skiing at Whistler is rightfully legendary and I had trouble keeping up with the other two in my party. But there is one person I can still keep up with - the littlest ski bunny, my granddaughter. She loves to ski with her Grandad! It's the BEST!<br />

She also likes to go ice-skating and Whistler has the most lovely ice-skating rink with up and down ramps and big colored stars hanging over the ice.<br />
