Great Guests!

One of the fun things about being an INNSITTER is that we get to meet such Great Guests!!In Golden Colorado we are Interim Innkeepers at the Dove Inn B&B and because the inn is so close to the Colorado School of Mines, we get  guests from all over the world. On this map you can see the little pins indicating the countries that our guests have come from. One morning Kirk and I served breakfast to 12 people none of which spoke English as their first language!

This is Diane from Canada reading the paper in everybody's favorite easy chair. Sometimes a guest will spend all day just reading in the big bay window. It's nice to see them really making themselves "at home".








  Diane was such a GREAT guest - look at the nice things she had to say about us and the Dove Inn..... We really do love to read comments like this in the in-room books. It's so nice to be appreciated, right??

Of course we also get great guests from the good old USA. This is Gayle from Denver [see the Broncos sweatshirt?] playing with the vintage "steropticon" that sits in the great room. It's fun to see how people entertained themselves before TV, computers and smart phones when this house was built in the 1800's.

  And  this is were we greet all those "GREAT GUESTS" - the front desk. The lovely lady standing with us is Elizabeth Padilla the owner of the Dove Inn. We are always happy to give her a break and take another assignment at our "home" in Golden Colorado!




 

Historic Homes

The Dove Inn is one of many Historic Homes in Golden Colorado. It was built in 1866 and still has lot's of it's original features. The original bath tub is in the "Red Rocks" room, the original doorstep is worn from over 100 years of footsteps, and in the kitchen there is a trap door down to the original well. When we are innsitters here we love to show our guests a photo from the early 1900s and say "look, here is your B&B". We also have to warn guests that the staircase was built long ago and is very narrow and steep!

The town of Golden Colorado has a Historic Landmark District that has many beautiful Historic Homes. It is fun to stroll the sidewalks, relive the past and read about the history in the "Tour of Historic Golden" book. Almost all of the houses were built with "golden brick" [one of the earliest industries in the town of Golden] but many have been painted. This charming grey house was built in 1871 by George West, one of the founding fathers Golden.      The house below was built in 1877 by a Union Civil War Captain and is in such great shape that it looks brand new.

 

But this last one [built in 1879 by a territorial legislator] is my absolute fave - I can just pretend to be reading a book on the sun-porch in a long white dress while someone else cooks my breakfast!

Golden Bronze

Our current assignment as interim innkeepers is in Golden Colorado. Golden is a super charming town nestled between the big city of Denver and the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. The city has done a great job in making a naturally beautiful area even more lovely and very enticing for tourists. They have historic buildings, lush parks, charming shops, gourmet restaurants and lots of public art. GPAP [Golden Public Art Program] has funded 30 beautiful bronze statues scattered all over the city. Kirk and I have made it a point to check out as many as possible. We have not yet seen all 30 but here are our favorites:
"The Cowboy" is Kirk's favorite, DUH!

This one is in front of the Library and is called "Secret Garden"

 

I am also very fond of this little monster - "Cameron's Dragon"

 

But my absolute favorite bronze statue in all of Golden Co is:

"Sleeping Bear"

 

Yes, I've been to Chicago and seen the "bean". I've been to Paris and seen the Eiffel tower but I really do like Golden's Bronzes.
